On the surface, Giver of Stars follows five Depression Era librarians who spread literacy and books via a WPA-funded Pack Horse Library. Margery, Alice, Beth, Izzy, and Sophia come from distinct backgrounds, yet they band together as they work at the library. When they threaten to expose the local coal mine owner for the person he is, the library and the character of the women themselves come under attack. Through this narrative, Moyes highlights the power of books and the lengths some will go to keep that knowledge.
I loved the way Julia Wahlen brought this book to life. The plot gets heavy sometimes, yet Moyes’ writing keeps you hooked, and Julia’s voice keeps you calm. The writing is excellent and the plot is easy to follow, with few to no holes. Our librarian’s inner turmoil felt logical and their heartbreak real. Margary and Alice have incredible evolution as they both contest society’s ideal vision of a proper wife.
A must-read for historical fiction lovers, this also is an excellent pick for a book club. The Pack Horse Libraries were very real and helped spread literacy in isolated Appalachian communities over a 9 year period. With commentary on the idea of book bands, and the thought that women should be meek and follow, so much insight is woven into this book.
After reviewing my 2020 reads, I did not feel anything was five(5) stars at the time, but for the time I have thought about this book, it deserves nothing less!

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Gene Ionescu loves baseball, he loves being a shortstop, and he loves playing for the Beaverton Beavers. Suddenly, his positive outlook is thrown for a loop when Luis Estrada, his long-lost college teammate turned nemesis, is traded to his team. Luis steals his position, and before long Gene is fighting the urge to let him steal his heart.
An ode to both baseball and romance novels, KT Hoffman’s debut is funny, flirty, and brimming with joy. He details everything to perfection from the baseball diamond to the open-door scenes, in an illustrative and witty manner, yet still full of tenderness. The love for baseball rivals the electric chemistry of the romance, and the humorous banter and character growth will have you crying happy tears when it all ends.
{slight spoilers ahead}
What I treasured most about this book was its authenticity. I loved how Gene loves his transness and professional progress yet still discourages himself from dreaming too big, in a veiled effort to avoid disappointment. The way the adoration of Luis allows him to develop. I valued the way anxiety was portrayed as another character itself, looming unexpectedly. Baseball was seemsley integrated into each chapter with the team’s record helping to move the narrative along. I relished the representation of ASL, the blended families, the beauty of queer love, and the commeradie among the teammates. The audio performance is immaculately read and cast. So many wonderful details made everything in this novel come to life.
The Prospects was a true elation to read and KT Hoffman frankly hit it out of the park!

ABOUT:
Despite being a romance author, Sawyer no longer believes in romance. While suffering from writer’s block, she finds herself explaining the concepts of meet-cutes to Mason, the man she gets stuck in an elevator with.
After they run into each other a second time, the two decide to pair up and attempt to cure Mason of his hopeless, romantic, lovesick ways, and perhaps give Sawyer the spark she needs to write again
MY THOUGHTS:
Y’all, this is a debut. Immediately charming, funny, and sexy, with complex characters that draw you in.
You know I love some longing, and Sawyer and Mason were down bad with each other from the beginning. Despite their opposite outlook towards relationships, there was something about the way they each longed for each other that I found so endearing throughout the book.
Erin’s voice brings a unique perspective, particularly in the use of tropes, in a way that feels so refreshing and is an homage to the romance reader and the romance genre. It truly felt like reading about one of your romances, girls, and having the.BEST time while doing it!
Also unexpectedly, I LOVED the holiday setting, with several main scenes set on Thanksgiving and during the winter holidays. I love books where a couple does ordinary things and falls in love while doing them, and this definitely had those vibes.
Not only is this book witty, but it is also smart and sexy. I was kicking and screaming from every little pinky touch. And when they get together, my goodness, was it good.
Erin Connor is an author not to be missed!
AUDIO:
The audio was “chef’s kiss” good. Both @miahutchinsonshaw Lee Osorio gave strong performances that brought so much joy and heart to life via Mason and Sawyer.
SIMILAR BOOKS:
The steam and strong character work will appeal to fans of Ali Hazlewood or Abby Jimenez.
SHOULD YOU READ:
I highly recommend this book, and I also think it would be a perfect winter read given its late-fall, early-winter setting. Cannot wait to read her next book, Still Into You (coming in February)

Witches, a strict ruling party, and main characters who pretend they aren’t falling combine in this spellbinding read. Ya’ll, am I going to be romantic girly now?
I am the first to admit I am not a huge fantasy reader. To be honest, there are a few things I could be critical of here, but I am ignoring them because I DEVOURED this book.

ABOUT:
Lady Rosalie is the queen bee of the ton, being courted by the dull yet affluent Mr. Dean and helping set up her friends. Then Catherine Pine enters the scene. Catherine immediately catches the eye of both Rosalinde and Mr. Dean. As Rosaline and Catherine try to form schemes to avoid his courtship, they begin to fall for each other.
MY THOUGHTS:
This was more like a love for me, and that mostly had to do with the length. Once we got to it, I really enjoyed the second part of this book. There was a lot of yearning, a wonderful found family, and a touch of spice. We loosely follow the plot of Mean Girls (the new girl in town joins an established trio).
I found the town of Bath setting very charming, especially all the references to drinking the water; I could smell it on every page. I also enjoyed There was a lot of wit and sass among all the characters, and I think the humor helped to keep me engaged.
I feel, however, that the first half was cluttered with too many plots and side characters, and I had trouble keeping things straight. That said, once the slow burn ignited, it felt like an entirely different book!
I must comment that this book was extremely queer-affirming, from Rosalie’s brother to her aunt, to the ladies’ maids, everyone accepted their relationship without a second thought. I like to think this was possible for some women in the 1820s.
Overall, I think this is a solid romance and will be appreciated by the right reader.
AUDIO:
Mary Jane Wells and Morag Sims both did an amazing job bringing Catherine, Rosalie, and the rest of the ton to life. I really appreciated being able to distinguish Catherine and Rosaline based on intonation and voice alone! I loved that it was a duet, which really enhanced the listening experience.
SIMILAR BOOKS:
The friendships reminded me a bit of the Las Leonas series, in that these women all supported and uplifted one another.
SHOULD YOU READ:
I think this will work well for those seeking an accepting sapphic historical romance.
