READ VIA: I listened via Spotify audio and also have a copy of the arc courtesy of Random House ABOUT: In the compound, we follow Lily, a reality show contestant, encouraged to form heterosexual couples and compete in challenges involving various moral decisions to achieve goods. MY THOUGHTS: This book was utterly fascinating, completely toxic, and frankly quite thought-provoking. Lily was really hard to like. She was materialistic and superficial, and her self-worth was in how men viewed her. Yet I couldn’t help but identify with her, which is probably why I disliked her so much. This reality show is set in a dystopian world, and I wish we had seen more about life on the outside, but perhaps that is coming in another book. Much of this book deals with what you are willing to do to achieve material success. I felt that one of the important messages is that material items, once basics, such as food and shelter, are taken care of, do not make you feel better about yourself. Finally, the emphasis on heteronormativity and superficial beauty was both engaging and fascinating to read. I was intrigued by the author’s use of so many descriptors for physical beauty in her writing. This book had me spiraling over these characters and their choices. AUDIO: Lucy Boynton brings Lilly‘s flighty, superficial nature to life. In a particular scene, when Lily describes diamond earrings, Boynton captures her vapid side perfectly. SIMILAR BOOKS: One of the comps I saw for this book was a School for Good Mothers, and I think I agree with that. This book focuses on a distorted worldview where women are valued for femininity above all else. SHOULD YOU READ If you want a twisted joint at a reality show, I think this one is definitely a fun time and would make an excellent book club selection

ABOUT:
Clementine, who has never once left her small Texas town while being her mother’s primary caregiver, finds herself, through a series of improbable events, a backup soulful singer on Tom Halloran’s US tour. He is immediately obsessed with her, and she fights the idea of being in love with every fiber of her being. They sing together on stage and fall in love between cities. They both have to confront their pasts, but they kinda don’t?
MY THOUGHTS:
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. However, at times, I felt I had to suspend reality to prolong that enjoyment.
This is one of those books where the lush writing is so strong that it hides the lack of plot development. The story had excellent pacing, but our sweet FMC has near-zero growth!
Given that the book is about a musician, there are innumerable romantic lyrics throughout the story; however, this overshadows the fact that we were being told they were longing for each other rather than seeing it organically.
The spice in this book was top-tier, hot, and featured multiple descriptive scenes, which really drove up the rating for me.
AUDIO:
Ellie Gossage and Eric Nolan bring this single-person point of view to life through a duet narration. Ellie absolutely nailed this narration with a performance that felt perfectly in sync with Clementine’s emotional rollercoaster. It pains me to say this, but Eric Nolan‘s performance felt a little flat, as if he were reading and not performing.

Definitely yes, for those who love musician-based stories and want a glimpse of romance while traveling on a tour bus.

READ VIA: Hoopla audioABOUT: When Lina gets the wedding planning opportunity of a lifetime, she is shocked to see the man who left her at the altar and his brother, Max, are also trying for positions with the group. Once paired together, Max and Lina must learn to overcome their feelings and confront their complicated past. MY THOUGHTS: My first Mia Sosa novel did not disappoint. There was a lot of tension, banter, and a meddling family I could not help but love. I appreciated Lina’s internal monologue and the way Max made her feel truly seen. Sosa did an excellent job of balancing the points of view, and I enjoyed that each character had a separate area where they needed to grow. Both the food and intimate scenes were spicy and I ate it right up!AUDIO:Rebecca Mozo and Wayne Mitchell both had engaging performances. Their rich voices added to the steamy, well paced experience of this story! SIMILAR BOOKS: She is a wedding planner, but she has never found love, and falling for her ex’s brother is the vibe here. SHOULD YOU READ: Yes! This was fun and sexy!

READ VIA: Libby Audio ABOUT: When her career begins to implode following the poor reception of a magazine cover, Avery Fox escapes to her grandmother‘s ranch. However, due to an estranged relationship between her mother and her grandmother, she has never even been to Oklahoma, let alone met her grandmother. Accepting ownership of her past actions and native identity, Avery experiences significant growth and love, from learning about horses to falling for a handsome cowboy. MY THOUGHTS: Overall, this was a really enjoyable, fun, flirty, cowboy romance. I appreciated Avery’s journey and felt that the found family, learning about one’s roots, was set up well. I sometimes wished the author had been bolder in the facets of native life she decided to include. Avery and Lucas had great banter, and I loved his inability to deny his attraction for Avery. I also felt his backstory was compelling and added a lot of depth to the narrative. At points, the writing felt like we were doing more telling than showing, and so at specific points, the story dragged a bit for me. I appreciated how this book addressed some of the more challenging aspects of being a performer, including the difficulty in expressing oneself in the way one desires. Altogether, I had a good experience reading the book. AUDIO: True to form, Kyla Garcia knocked this one out of the park. She had to cover voices for a variety of genders and ages, and I felt like she was able to give each a distinctive tone. Additionally, Avery‘s frustration, happiness, and warmth came across through her endearing performance. SIMILAR BOOKS: I have seen this compared to the Hannah Montana movie, but I have never seen that. This celebrity learns about real life on a ranch theme. SHOULD YOU READ: Danica is definitely one to watch, and I look forward to what she writes next. I definitely recommend this for fans of cowboy romances!

ABOUT:
Noah and Ramin were unlikely high school friends, but lost touch after graduation.
Freshly heartbroken and looking to reinvent himself, Ramin travels to Italy hoping to enjoy the scenery and have a carefree time.
Meanwhile, Noah is blindsided when his ex-wife states she wants to move to Italy and potentially take their son with her. She suggests a family vacation.
Then suddenly these two find themselves in the same gelato shop in Milan and find themselves rekindling a flame neither realized stilll exists.
MY THOUGHTS:
Oh how I adored this book. The swoon , the spice, the realistic depiction of everything that happens before and after intimacy.
Why am I typically not a fan of “lessons” I felt the spice here was both educational for the reader and for Noah as he explored his bisexual identity. I especially appreciated the frank way he approached the messier sides of sex.
Ramin and Noah both have complicated back stories that were revealed through dual timelines and dual point of views. There were some finer details that I wish I did more flushed out, especially in relation to Noah‘s parents and Ramin’s body morphinism. However, overall, I feel we got the depths we needed to understand their pain.
Finally, this book truly felt like a vacation from the wines to the foods to the train through Italy. I felt like I was traveling right along with them.
AUDIO:
Corvin King and Vikas Adam bring this fun book to life. Their voices offer district narration that easily allowed the listener to follow the changing point of views and dual timelines.
SIMILAR BOOKS:
I really enjoyed this author why novels but I think his adult work reminds me of MA Wardell.

ABOUT: Miriam Richter, both made of and commander of shadows, sustained by souls and immortal, has wandered the earth aimlessly until she meets Cybil Harding. Cybil, who suffers from the cursed fate of being a first daughter, whose soul shines brighter than anything Miriam has ever seen. These two bargain with each other and then chase each other across centuries in a dance of a delightful combination of distaste and desire. MY THOUGHTS: A Sapphic shadow monster has been longing for centuries for the only woman who has ever tried to defy her and chases her soul across time and England. What is it not to like? The writing is gorgeous and descriptive. Siegel manages to create vivid characters who exist within our world. The power dynamics, magic and yearning combine perfectly. I would describe this as a slow burn gothic fantasy that feeds you breadcrumbs of information leading to the epic conclusion.I really enjoyed the careen of Cybil and Miriam’s relationship and the way their fates are tied together. The way they both want to conquer yet also love the other person was delicious. SIMILAR BOOKS: If you enjoyed the push and pull sapphic vibes of Bury Our Bones in the midnight soil, this will likely work for you. SHOULD YOU READ: The writing is gorgeous, and the storytelling is consuming. Highly recommend for lovers of emotional, witchy fantasy.
